Chapter 50 – James Kenneth Hogg

My trusted companion Swissy looks up and barks his intent to run. With a shake of my head, he lies down and stares into the park watching everyone’s moves.

I look down at the copy of the other letter.

Over the last 10 years you have supported me in admirable ways. You were my first recruit and together we have driven my idea into a successful cartography business. Our numbers have swollen from a solitary employee to a thriving workforce of over 100.

The south of the Clutha is my home and I am entrusting you to create a map befitting its growing greatness. First and foremost you must impress the Dean of Guild, which will surely lead to further opportunities.

The secondary task is a secret between us. As on the field of play we must study Carey & Fortis. I need you to assess every facet of their operation and determine the threat they pose. Glasgow is ours, not theirs and I need your recommendation on how we deal with them.

Please meet me at Queens Street Station tomorrow at 1pm and bring an overnight bag. We are going on a trip.

Yours sincerely

I trust in James’ judgement immeasurably and this is our greatest challenge. I am convinced he is the right man for this job.
